A Brief History of Scion
Scion is an offshoot of Toyota, and was founded in 2002. Toyota’s reason for creating Scion was to appeal to younger generations of consumers, especially in the U.S.
Scion unveiled the xA hatchback and xB wagon for sale in California in 2003, and by 2004 the cars were available nationwide. The company attracted attention by offering limited edition vehicles for limited times, as well as offering unique customization. Scion is all about experimentation with products and marketing techniques. The company has given Toyota great insights on how to best reach certain consumers. Scion also uses a unique “pure pricing” system. Whatever price is posted for a Scion car is exactly what the customer pays, including insurance and other expenses.
In 2011 Scion introduced the iQ, which is popularly referred to as the “smart car.” The Scion iQ is ultra-compact and ultra-environmentally friendly. Scion plans to continue creating unique and intriguing vehicles in an effort to ensure that Toyota dominates the next generation of drivers.
