A Brief History of BMW
BMW was founded in 1917 as an aircraft manufacturing business, but after WWI shifted its focus to producing motorcycles and automobiles, with an emphasis on engine production and design.
In 1928 BMW produced its first four-wheeled vehicle, the Dixi, which was licensed from the Austin Motor Company in England. BMW experienced growing success with its vehicles, but unfortunately, WWII would force BMW into aircraft production once again, only this time for the German Luftwaffe. BMW needed some time after the end of WWII to collect itself and return to vehicle production. BMW started out by producing quality motorcycles in the 50’s, but by the 60’s and 70’s had moved on to automobile production. In 1973, BMW introduced the 2002 Turbo, which was the first turbo ever mass-produced.
BMW has achieved great success in producing racing cars, as well as luxury cars and motorcycles. It is one of the top three luxury automakers in the world, and it shows no signs of letting up.
