A Brief History of Acura
Acura is the luxury vehicle division of Honda, and was the original Japanese luxury automobile. Acura was founded in 1986, which is also the year that Acura vehicles were introduced to American markets.
The first and only Acura models introduced to the U.S. in 1986 were the Integra and the Legend. Both models proved to be successful, as Americans turned away from the more expensive European luxury brands and began to look to Eastern auto manufacturers as a cheaper alternative.
The most successful Acura model introduced in America was the NSX, a luxury sports car. The car appealed to many Americans as it was fun to drive and was also much cheaper than its European counterparts.
Acura went through a down period in the early 1990’s, but since then Acura has recovered and expanded its operations into new markets, such as Russia and China.
